Vocational Assessments
A Vocational Assessment assesses the client’s potential as it
relates to a return to the competitive work force and
establishes viable vocational options for the client. Such an
assessment is usually performed after an individual has reached
a level of medical stability, and although capable of working is
not capable of returning to his or her pre-injury occupation.
The client is assessed in the areas of interests, academic
achievement, work-related aptitudes, verbal/nonverbal abilities
and secondary aptitudes, as well as occupational
personality/temperament. This evaluation is designed to obtain a
Worker Qualification Profile (WQP) for the client, which is
compatible with the Canadian Classification and Dictionary of
Occupations (CCDO)/ National Occupational Classifications –
Counseling Version (NOC). A vocational assessment may include a
functional abilities evaluation to determine an individual's
physical abilities and/or a transferability of skills analysis
to determine the residual employability of a client and
transferable work content (or acquired practical skills).
The evaluation is completed within 2 to 3 days. (Additional
time may be required in certain instances, due to the client’s
physical/cognitive abilities.)
