Functional Abilities
Evaluations (FAE)
A Functional Abilities Evaluation is a form of work
evaluation that involves a range of assessment procedures to:
- identify a worker's general physical/functional ability to
perform the essential activities of a specific job or a
particular type of employment, or
- determine a baseline for the employee's capabilities,
which in turn can be utilized to determine appropriate
vocational and/or return to work goals.
CVS conducts a thorough evaluation of an individual's
physical /functional abilities utilizing the
ERGOS, a computerized state-of-the-art Work Simulator
administered by a trained Rehabilitation Specialist. The ERGOS
is designed to measure an individual's safe work capacity and to
provide information that includes (but is not limited to) the
following physical tasks: lifting, carrying, pushing/pulling,
working overhead, forward reaching, low level working, walking,
climbing, stooping, bending, kneeling, strength testing, both
static and dynamic, finger and manual dexterity skills,
sitting/standing tolerance, and workday tolerance.
The ERGOS incorporates the highest Canadian and International
quality standards for objective testing (the Canadian
Classification and Dictionary of Occupations (CCDO), the
Methods-Time-Measurement system (MTM), the National Institute of
Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) standards, and the
Dictionary of Occupational Titles (DOT). The FAE can be
conducted in either English or French and includes an extensive
intake and exit interview.
